Michele De Bonis is Associate Professor, Chief of Cardiac Surgery-Innovation and Research and past Director of the Postgraduate School in Cardiac Surgery at “Vita-Salute” San Raffaele University and Hospital, Milan, Italy. He is a Fellow of ESC (FESC) and AHA (FAHA).
He completed his training in Rome and at St. George’s Hospital (UK). He has been Visiting Professor at Plymouth NHS Trust (UK) and Cape Town University, South Africa. He has been Chairman of the EACTS Task Force on mitral surgery, the ESC WG on Cardiovascular Surgery and European Liaison” of the AHA Council on Cardiac Surgery.
He is Director of the Level 2 Mitral Course of the EACTS Academy, member of the ESC Council on VHD and Co-Chairman of the Mitral Valvular Research Network of the Heart Valve Society.
He has filed 5 patents and founded a start-up company in the field of trans-catheter treatment of tricuspid regurgitation.
Author/co-author of >300 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters in cardiac surgery. His main fields of interest are mitral and tricuspid repair, minimally invasive approaches, secondary MR, mechanical circulatory support, education and teaching.
