Mauro is a cardiac surgeon specialized at the University of Rome, Italy in general surgery and cardiovascular surgery in 1987 and in 1992 respectively.
He was fellow in general surgery and subsequently in cardiac surgery at the University of Oklahoma and next at Southwestern University in Dallas in the years 1985-86.
He has been director of Departments of cardiac surgery in Turin, Catanzaro, Bari and San Giovanni Rotondo during the last 22 years of his career.
His main interestes in the field of cardiac surgery have been totally arterial myocardial revascularization and mitral valve repair. In the last ten years he has been mainly focused in mininvasive valve surgery and TAVI, both transfemoral and transapical.
He is member of the Italian Cardiac Surgery Society, the European Association for cardiothoracic Surgery, the Society for Thoracic Surgeons and the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network.
